Monitor Your Blood Pressure from Home with Somerset Primary Care
There is very strong scientific evidence that maintaining a blood pressure of 130/80 or below provides protection against stroke, heart attacks, vascular disease and kidney damage. Typically, patients only get their blood pressures measured 3 or 4 times per year in a Doctor’s office which does not represent what the blood pressure is for the overfall year. In fact, we often see blood pressures that are high at the time of the office visit and attribute it to patient anxiety and the “white coat syndrome”. This syndrome is a real thing but it does not help us in knowing what your blood pressure is or how best to work with you to get to the target levels.
For these reasons we have been asking patients for some time to monitor their blood pressures at home and log in to a website to upload the results. We recognize that this is an inconvenient extra burden and have decided to simplify the process by instituting a state-of-the-art digital home blood pressure monitoring program. With this program patients will be given a digital blood pressure cuff that automatically uploads the readings to our office. The reading can be easily taken in the comfort of your home. If medication adjustments need to made, we can call you and save the time and expense of an office visit.
Our goal is to have each and every patient in our practice with safe and well controlled blood pressures maximizing life style interventions and using only the minimum amount of medication necessary for good control. Together we can provide the best opportunities for a long, healthy and happy life.
Let us know at your next visit if this a program you would like to participate in.
